Meet Our Team

Jess Holt

I am a registered nurse with over 11 years experience within my profession, and have now branched my practice out to the fitness industry, to enforce my passion of health promotion.

As well as being the owner and founder of The Studio Standish, I am the instructor for the adult and child Boxercise classes, the family classes, Box2Box and Penalty Box sessions.

I apply a personal approach to my involvement at The Studio, and work hard to ensure everyone is made to feel welcome, without judgement or expectations. I want everyone to feel good about being healthy, and to enjoy the process that unfolds.

Alex Gaskell

I’m Alex and I’m 22 years old. I first found my passion in health and fitness at the age of just 7 when I started to play rugby. At 14 yrs old I then started going to the gym, as it was around this time that received a Scholarship at Wigan Warriors Rugby Club. During this time and up to the age of 17, I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from working alongside strength and conditioning coaches, who inspired my passion for fitness further. Following on from my time at Wigan Warriors, I went to play for Salford Academy for 2 years, followed by a year of semi-professional rugby with Gloucestershire all Golds in league 1, and then for another year at Rochdale Hornets in the Championship. I am now a level 3 qualified personal trainer and also qualified to take HIIT classes. I still like to play rugby in my spare time and enjoy 5 a side football with my friends. Another hobby of mine is that I enjoy cooking for me and my family.

I trained with the British Wheel of Yoga, studying the foundation course before completing the level 4 Adult Teacher Training Diploma. Last year, after seeing the impact yoga was having on my students, I decided to train to teach children, and qualified with the Independent Yoga Network.

I’ve taught indoors and out, in classrooms, health centres, studios, parks, forest and lakeside venues, teaching children as young as 2, and adults 70+. Sharing yoga with people of all ages, on their own, in groups and as families.

Janet

Yoga is my biggest passion and hobby.  When my feet are on my mat I feel safe, grounded , and inspired, often referring it as my “tool for life”. I started practising about 15 years ago after suffering back problems ,I quickly started to feel both physical and mental benefits leaving me hungry to learn more about the world of yoga .

Along my journey I have been lucky to of had some inspiring teachers who encouraged me to share my warm personality and teach myself , so 3 years ago I completed the IYN 200hr teacher training course .

Having a general knowledge about anatomy , nutrition , and wellbeing I like to lead a healthy lifestyle with a positive outlook on life . My teaching practise is Hatha based including some flow , building on strengthening and toning muscles , increasing flexibility, encouraging self help and personal growth .

Come and take an hour out of your everyday life , your body deserves it! Join me on the mat , dedicate time to nurture the wonderful “YOU”

Namaste x

Susan Higgins

Cycling has been part of my life since being a child, competing for the first time on my 12th birthday. My life from that point consisted of training instead of playing and socialising, and travelling up and down the country to compete at regional and national levels each weekend. I competed in time trials, road races and on the velodrome. I even did a sports science and physical education degree to give me more training time.

In my late 20’s life got in the way and I hung up my bike at the end of a season and vowed to never touch it again. Then about 5 years ago, I became quite seriously ill, which also had an impact on my mental health. Instead of popping more pills, I decided to buy a proper girls bike a start riding to work. It killed me a first, but within months I had 2 racing bikes, a mountain bike and a track bike. I was hooked again and without the pressure of competition, it was freedom. Since then I have become a British Cycling coach, a British cycling Breeze leader, which is about encouraging ladies to start riding bikes and a Performance cycling Pro indoor cycling instructor. It is my passion, love, health and sanity and I want to share that with as many people as possible and promote the benefits and joys cycling can bring.
